As you may or may not have heard in the teaser, this podcast is all about giving value and helping you to achieve your big business goals. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and give you an insight on who is sharing this weekly value, shall we? Hi, my name is Sarah Berckenkamp and I want to see you win!
Who is Sarah?
Let’s start with the obvious: I’m 36 years young, a raging aquarius and I live in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. No, I don’t smoke weed, but I do cycle daily. I live with my husband Hugo and my two cats, Bamboo and Ludo. Apologies in advance for their loud meows now and then (from the cats, not Hugo of course).
Who was Sarah?
I was born in Goes, in the south of the Netherlands. My mother raised me alone since my father was not able to take care of us. As a child that’s something I pushed back, but I can honestly say that it shaped me to be the person I am today. During my teenage years, I wanted to make sure to be financially independent. My mother suddenly had to take care of me and pay all the bills herself. And although it didn’t seem obvious then, it became a trigger for me to be independent at all times.
And then…the Spice Girls arrived. I was hugely influenced by their message of empowerment and I am proud to call myself a feminist ever since. Mind you, I am by no means a man-hater. But female empowerment is one of my biggest goals.
I was not the brightest student and did not enjoy learning without a purpose. I was more of a practical child, you see.
That’s why I chose a college education in sports and truly loved it. When it was time to choose my Bachelor degree, I went for arts and culture, with a major in cultural heritage.
Even before graduating, I found my first job as a project manager for a huge event in Amsterdam: The Museum Night. After many jobs in marketing communication, I started my first company in PR for nightlife and galleries. It was not my most successful venture, but I loved every minute of it!
After that I started a company to connect freelancers and clients and although it wasn’t for me at the time, I still believe in the concept! Maybe, I’ll pursue that dream when the time is right.
Pivoting is a must when you have a business. I myself went from a business in PR for nightlife and galleries during my education, to being a freelance Interim Manager, to founding a very time-consuming start-up. And now? I’ve finally found what makes my heart beat faster: I’ve been helping entrepreneurs like you discover their freedom doing what they love. Wow, has it been 4 years already?
What Sarah has done
I’m a true activist. It has shaped me and still continues to do so. I’ve also been politically active for six years and even campaigned for Hillary Clinton in West-Philadelphia in the US. I protested Brexit and curated a few exhibitions to celebrate a hundred years of voting rights for women. I decided recently to quit politics, because it demanded a lot of time and energy and that needed to go to my own business.
And that brings me to my next chapter.
Future Sarah
I’ve owned my current business for 4 years now, but only recently changed from being a freelancer to delivering an online offer. Why? Because I wanted to help more people! As a freelance Interim Manager, my waitlist kept building up until my clients had to wait for at least 1,5 years to work with me. I wanted to do better. I listened to the needs of my clients and created an online coaching business for entrepreneurs. It is still the best decision I ever made!
Because now, I can help my clients faster and better. But I can also focus more on the things I love like:
- Italian and Japanese food
- Traveling to Italy, Japan and the US
- Drink wine
- Take long hot baths
- Looking at beautiful art, museums and galleries
- Gymnastics
- Feminism
- Sex and the City and Just like that (not the movies)
- Absolutely Fabulous
- Designer clothing
- Dance pop culture music
